Multiple Grammy® Award nominee Keyshia Cole starred in and executive produced Keyshia Cole: This Is My Story, a Lifetime biopic chronicling her journey from Oakland to stardom, while exploring her complicated yet deep love for her mother, Frankie Lons. The film premiered on June 24, 2023, as part of Lifetime’s Black Music Month celebration, with Jonathan Azu serving as a co-producer.
Directed by D’Angela Proctor and Manu Boyer, the film featured a new song by Cole, Forever Is a Thing, and a score composed by Grammy winner Warryn Campbell, with Ron Fair overseeing music supervision.
“This is a story of a daughter’s love for her mother,” said Cole, reflecting on the deeply personal nature of the project. “Playing myself allowed me to relive special moments, process my loss, and honor my mom.”
The film joined Lifetime’s successful slate of music biopics, including Whitney, Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart, and The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel. Produced by Swirl Films and Big Dreams, the project was dedicated to Frankie Lons’ memory, highlighting themes of family, resilience, and self-discovery.
