Luke James is a three-time Grammy®-nominated artist who has starred in hit TV shows and critically acclaimed films, released #1 albums, and toured with major music superstars. He starred in the Showtime drama series The Chi, joining in season three and promoted to a series regular due to his captivating performance as Victor “Trig” Taylor, Jake’s estranged older brother. Luke has also appeared in stage productions, including starring Keenan Scott II’s Thoughts of a Colored Man, which opened at Broadway’s Golden Theatre in 2021.
Luke’s other acting credits include starring on the hit FOX/Lee Daniels musical drama series Star, HBO’s Insecure, USA’s Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G., National Geographic’s Genius: Aretha, and his role as R&B singer Johnny Gill on BET’s The Bobby Brown Story—which drew in record ratings of 29M+ viewers during premiere week.
Luke’s feel love/d was the only indie album nominated for the 2021 Grammy Awards® in the Best R&B Album category. It features collaborations with Lucky Daye, Big K.R.I.T., BJ the Chicago Kid, Kirk Franklin, Ro James, and production from Danja, Guitarboy, and Sir Dylan.
Luke’s musical roots come from growing up in New Orleans, where he was influenced by artists like Marvin Gaye and D’Angelo. He began his career singing background for Tyrese and writing for top artists before pursuing his solo career, which led to opening for Beyoncé's Mrs. Carter Show World Tour.
